Upgrading from Big Sur to Monterey

The endless upgrading! On1 Photo Raw will soon drop macOS Big Sur, forcing me to upgrade to Monterey. What is the best approach to upgrade?

I was so nervous and I wasn’t too clear how to approach it. I did a lot of reading how to upgrade, whether I had to create another boot up drive with OCAuxillieryTools and do a clean upgrade. Should I go through Apple upgrade, or should I use Opencore Legacy Patcher? I was really unsure. I was a little bit confused here but after a bit of research it appears the Legacy Patcher is mainly for old genuine Macs.

In the end I decided to go through the easy route with Apple upgrade. I did have a backup USB boot up drive if anything went wrong. The first stage, which is very important, was to update OCAuxillieryTools to the latest version and to update any of the kexts in the config.plist file on my computer. Then I closed down my computer and did a boot-up, just to make sure everything was OK. Success! Everything good so far.

I now decided to go for it and live dangerously and go through Apple’s upgrade. I did have Monterey upgrade in Applications, so I double-clicked this to start the process. During the upgrade the damn thing kept booting up on a loop. It did it at least 3 times. I said to myself, Oh no, its on a damn loop here. I read about this looping issue. Eventually it stopped and presented me with Home Screen login :-)

It was absolutely perfect. I was so happy. So, if you are wondering if you can upgrade on a Hackintosh from Big Sur to Monterey, you can! However, it just depends on your computer hardware setup, but it works on mine.
